Coast Guard Beach
One of the few returnees form last year's list and the only New England beach on the list, Coast Guard Beach is named for the one-time U.S. Coast Guard station there. It faces the Atlantic on the Cape Cod National Seashore. Dr. Beach says "The sand is fairly coarse so the beach slopes steeply into the water." And since that water reaches summer temperatures of only about 60 or 70 degrees Fahrenheit (about 14.5 to 21 degrees Celsius), he says it's better for a quick dip than a long, luxuriant swim.
